The mass uptake of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging technologies, as a key part of the UK's Zero Emission Transport strategy, and the increasing emergence of smart households (e.g., solar panels, battery storage, etc.), have affected the operation and performance of networks. In this context, flexibility services have become particularly useful. The development of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies within low voltage networks represents a promising alternative source of flexibility instead of capital-intensive reinforcements. The 'VEhiCle TO eneRgy communitieS' (VECTORS) project is a highly innovative, collaborative research project that aims to unlock the energy flexibility potential of EVs and to accelerate commercial V2X services, encapsulating V2Home and expanding on V2Community and aggregated V2Grid concepts. VECTORS expands the flexibility potential of the bi-directional charging technologies by tackling the silo operation of V2X, complementing the solution with bespoke business models, carbon assessment and tailored market products. VECTORS brings together world-class expertise across technology, market design, local government, EV manufacture and academic research. This provides a holistic evaluation of all aspects relevant to the realisation of V2X services: from optimisation and control schemes to hardware integration to business models and end-users engagement, as well as carbon assessment of V2X operation. Aim of the proposed project is to promote practically feasible and financially robust end-to-end V2X concepts with high replicability and scalability.
